What is the Union Advantage?

  • Flexible Help Having the help you need when you need it saves you money on labor costs.  Painters District  Council 2 members are available when you need them, for as long as you need them, even in cities where you don’t normally do business.   We can put skilled, qualified workers on your doorstep in less than 24 hours, every time.

  • Training We spend ample money every year training contractor employees and provide over 46,000 training hours for our apprentices, with an additional 4,000 hours for journeyman upgrade classes.  Our training center is provided to the contractor and workforce at no additional charge.   How much do you spend each year on safety training alone?  Every union employee you hire will save you that amount (typically between $500- $2000 per employee) per year.

  • Lower Safety-related Costs Our training programs stress the connection between safety and competitiveness.  PDC2 members put safety first every time, which means you save on comp costs, downtime costs and absenteeism.

  • Productivity Higher productivity means higher profits. PDC2 members are required to be the best trained, most highly skilled and productive craftsmen available anywhere. That means no rework. That means on-time and on-budget. That means no unskilled hands.

  • Supervision How long does it take you to develop a good foreman or superintendent?  How much money does it cost you along the way?  One of the most common reasons companies like yours become union contractors is because they want to grow.  We can provide qualified     supervision.  If you could add two foremen and crews next year, how much would that add to your bottom line?

  • Medical Care Ability to bank hours when the construction season slows down.  A member who works at least 80 hours a month will continue to receive coverage and will not draw from their banked medical coverage.  A member who works 120 hours a month will not only receive coverage but banks coverage for future use.

  • Pension Plan Employees and/or owners will be participants in the Painters’ District Council 2 Pension Plan.  This defined benefit plan is funded by contributions from hours worked.

New EPA Regulations Protect Children from Lead Dangers, Union-Trained Painters are Prepared!

The EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Regulation takes effect April 22, 2010.  It covers all housing that was constructed prior to 1978, and encompasses all other pre-1978 "Child Occupied" buildings, such as day care centers, schools and other facilities.  The law requires:

  • Contractors disturbing lead in these homes and facilities MUST become Certified Renovation Firms through the EPA.
  • Certified Renovation Firms must educate home or building owners of the law prior to starting the project and their workers must perform all work in a prescribed lead-safe manner.
  • Certified Renovation Firms must employ, on the job site, at least one worker who has passed training to become a Certified Renovator through an approved EPA training provider.
  • While home owners may perform the work themselves without being certified--if they live in the home--landlords must follow the requirements of the RRP.
  • There is a $32,500 fine for non-compliant contractors, with fines up to $65,000 for willful non-compliance.  There are also possible criminal sanctions.

Lead dust can cause irreversible brain and other organ damage, particularly in children under six years of age.  Many children are exposed to high concentrations of lead when work is being performed and after the project is completed if the area is not properly cleaned.

Painters' District Council #2 has been training members to meet the new requirements and encourages home and business owners and the general public to contact us or click HERE for updated listings of RRP Certified Renovation Firms.
